ABOUT
The studio is furnished with top-of-the-range lighting, beds and chairs to allow the artists to work seamlessly and efficiently. Only the highest quality equipment, machines and inks are used at Black Tapestry to ensure that artists can work to their full potential and clients can leave the studio with the best and most well-executed tattoo.
For a little over a year, Black Tapestry was home to five resident tattoo artists and saw multiple guest artists pass through its doors, all while delivering an unmatched level of professionalism and the highest quality of service to its clients.
Then in October of 2023, the studio was relocated to a newly converted, Grade II Listed building on the south bank of the River Thames in London’s Deptford. Paynes Wharf was originally built in 1860 and used as a boiler workshop supplying ship parts to the Royal Navy. It is now used as an artistic hub, providing a workplace and inspiring creativity for painters, sculptors, fashion designers, artists and tattooers alike.
The new home of Black Tapestry is a bright and spacious studio with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing natural light to flood in. Its walls full of artwork and plants scattered throughout promote an inspiring and relaxing atmosphere, which retains the warm and welcoming environment that our current clients are accustomed to, and which our new clients will love too.
We look forward to welcoming you to our new studio and can’t wait to help you tell your own story with your next tattoo.
Black Tapestry Tattoo originally opened its doors in September of 2022 in an unassuming industrial estate in the docklands area of east London. Its high ceilings and rustic features helped to influence the character of the studio as it began to take shape in its early days. Tattoo artist and owner Chris Bintt wanted to create his own unique working environment based around comfort and practicality; a space where everything that the artist could possibly need is within arms reach and a place where clients can be as comfortable as possible to endure those longer tattooing sessions.

TOUR THE STUDIO
BINTT
Realising that this was quickly leading nowhere fast, he persisted until he found an apprenticeship with a local tattoo studio where he could start from the very bottom and learn the basics of how a real tattoo studio works. Shortly after completing his apprenticeship, he relocated to London where he worked in multiple award-winning studios that helped him to start to develop his unique style.
Specialising in dot-work, geometry and blackwork tattoos, he has spent years perfecting his craft and developing a distinctive style to create unique designs that reflect each client’s specific ideas and personality.
In addition to his work at the studio, Chris is a prominent figure in the tattoo convention scene, regularly showcasing his work at events across the UK and beyond. He is always on the lookout for ways to improve his craft and regularly collaborates with artists from diverse backgrounds and styles to incorporate fresh and innovative ideas into his own work.
Artist and owner Chris Bintt has been tattooing for almost 15 years. Hailing from a small town outside of Birmingham, he started his tattoo career in his bedroom with a cheap tattoo machine from the internet – and no idea what he was doing.
